Aaliyah, Anurag Kashyap’s Daughter, Informed Him She Doesn’t ‘Give A s**t’ About His Problems: ‘Main Kama Rahi Hoon, Kya Issue Hai?’
Anurag Kashyap, the filmmaker, is continuing his trend of refusing to be boxed in. Almost Pyaar, a love drama aimed for Gen Z, will be released this week, just months after his last release, the science-fiction flick Dobaaraa. He acknowledged his daughter Aaliyah with bringing vital insight into her generation to the production, and he spoke about what he has learnt about parenting from her.
Anurag stated in an interview with Siddharth Kannan that the invisible ‘villains’ in Almost Pyaar are ‘uncles’ like him who fail to appreciate their own children and their hardships. He stated that Aaliyah had to have a direct dialogue with him about this once, and that she had to educate him on how her life challenges are not the same as his.
“We think our children don’t realise the worth of struggle and what they’ve been given,” he remarked in Hindi. Their fight, though, is distinct. It isn’t the same as our battle, but it exists.”
“Parents don’t comprehend their children,” he continued. All they want is to be kept in a safe zone. And their definition of safety is influenced by their conditioning… ‘You don’t get me, mum doesn’t get me,’ my daughter has told to me directly. Everyone tells her stories about me and my struggle, how I got here with hardly Rs 5000. ‘I don’t give a s**t,’ she said. It’s your guilt that your parents overspent on your education, but you wanted to be a filmmaker and prove something to them. You didn’t have to borrow money to take care of me. You had the means to fund my schooling. My battle is with myself. It’s so difficult just to be myself.”
She claims she needs to explain to him why she’s ‘happy on YouTube,’ despite the fact that her entire generation is online and many of them make a job from it. Anurag stated that Aaliyah advised him not to interrogate her about generating money on YouTube and remarked, “Main jaise bhi kama rahi hoon, kama rahi hoon na? Rent is de rahi hoon. ‘What is your problem?'” Anurag stated that Aaliyah is self-sufficient and pays her own rent.
