Shikhar Dhawan’s Bollywood debut in Sonakshi’s ‘Double XL’
The trailer for the upcoming film Double XL was just released, and it appears that Bollywood is experimenting with new filmmaking techniques.
Huma Qureshi and Sonakshi Sinha star as plus-size women who find comfort in one another after being subjected to body shaming on a daily basis in this Bollywood film.
The trailer also shows how the trials they face strengthen their friendship, making it easier for them to face and overcome life’s challenges.
Shikhar Dhawan, the Indian batting sensation, is also making his Bollywood debut with this film.
It’s clear that Double XL will not keep audiences in the dark, but the film will still do a lot to combat fatphobia.
In the new movie trailer, Huma Qureshi has a dream in which she meets Shikhar Dhawan. However, Huma’s mother interrupts the dream with some fairly generic comments from people in a similar situation.
“Iss ladki ka kya karun?” she replied.
Huma’s desire to become a famous sports broadcaster is revealed later in the film, but she quickly dispels the notion that this is a realistic career path given her “healthy” physique.
In the following clip, she meets Sonakshi’s character in a public restroom. The audience is aware that she recently ended her relationship with her boyfriend.
Later in the preview, the two become friends and travel to London to talk about fatphobia, changing norms of what it means to be “normal,” and the difficulty of living up to societal expectations.
Shikhar Dawan makes a cameo appearance, as does Zaheer Iqbal.
In case you missed it, Sonakshi and Huma have both reportedly gained weight for the film.
In an interview with India Today, Zaheer stated the following:
Sonakshi and Huma gained the weight they desired by following the diet plan. For the film, they gained an average of 20 pounds (15 kg). Since this was the case, they did nothing but eat. There was a lot of burger lao and cut scenes (bring food). That’s all I recall about the shoot.
The film’s official release date is October 14th, 2022.
