Ram Charan’s Wife Replies But Not Him,” Apoorva Lakhia Reflects Upon His Changed Relation With The RRR Star, Years After Zanjeer Bombed At The Box Office

In a recent interview, director Apoorva Lakhia opened up about his friendship with actor Ram Charan after their collaborative film Zanjeer failed to perform well at the box office. Despite the movie’s lackluster reception, Lakhia revealed that their bond remained unaffected. However, he expressed his disappointment over Charan’s habit of not answering his phone calls, while mentioning that Charan’s wife, Upasana, often responds on his behalf.

Zanjeer, released in 2013, marked Ram Charan’s debut in Bollywood alongside Priyanka Chopra. Although the film failed to leave a significant impact commercially, Charan went on to achieve global fame after the Oscar recognition received by the OST Naatu Naatu from his recent film RRR.

During the conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Lakhia shared that despite Zanjeer’s box office performance, he has visited Charan at his Hyderabad home on several occasions and stayed with him. However, he expressed his surprise and concern over Charan’s change in behavior regarding phone calls. Lakhia humorously mentioned that he wondered if Charan had changed his phone or not, as the actor no longer picks up Lakhia’s calls, but his wife responds.

When asked if he had communicated with Charan during the production of RRR, Lakhia recalled that Charan called him from Ukraine and asked about his availability. However, due to Lakhia’s own professional commitments, he couldn’t join the project, and that was the last time they spoke. Lakhia mentioned that Charan occasionally calls him, but he still doesn’t answer Lakhia’s calls.

Acknowledging Charan’s busy professional career, Lakhia also shared that whenever he visits Hyderabad, Upasana graciously hosts him. However, it has been a while since Lakhia last visited the city.

On a personal note, Ram Charan and Upasana Kamineni are currently expecting their first child together. The revelation of Charan’s habit of not answering calls from Lakhia has sparked curiosity among fans.
