Rajkummar Rao Says His ‘Gangs Of Wasseypur’ Character Was Originally The Lead.
Rajkummar Rao began his career as a supporting actor in films such as Talaash and Gangs of Wasseypur before becoming one of Bollywood’s most bankable leading men. Although he did not become a household name as a result of these roles, they did garner him enough attention to propel his career.
According to recent statements by the actor, Anurag Kashyap’s gangster comedy Gangs of Wasseypur may have been the film that finally established him in the industry. This is because his character, Shamshad Alam, was supposed to co-star with Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s Faizal Khan.
Rao stated the following in an interview with Netflix: “After seeing Love, Se, and Dhokha, Anurag sir called and said, “I’m making a film; you should come meet me.” As a result, when I first met him, all I had was a story, or more accurately, the bones of a story. His narration was used in the film Faisal Khan vs. Shamshad Alam. When Nawaz and I went to Wasseypur, I brought a cassette recorder with me to record the city’s inhabitants.
“After the writing was finished three to four months later, Anurag sir met with me again, and he informed me that my role had become much shorter,” he explained.
“In any case, sir, I’ve already told you not to worry. When he asked if I was still interested, I told him I was. I’m excited to collaborate with you. He said, “I’m glad I did it.”
Rao appeared in Gangs of Wasseypur 2 as a low-level goon who initially assists Faizal Khan but later betrays him for money.
Manoj Bajpayee, Pankaj Tripathi, Richa Chadha, Huma Quereshi, and Tigmanshu Dhulia also appear in the film.
Rajkummar recently appeared in the Netflix original comedy crime film Monica, O My Darling. Following that, look for him in Bheed and Mr. & Mrs. Maahi, both of which are set to be released soon.
