Oppenheimer Box Office Day 4 (India): Cillian Murphy Led Film Shows Resilience
Oppenheimer, the biographical epic directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Cillian Murphy, experienced a slight drop in momentum on Monday. However, the film still managed to maintain good numbers at the Indian box office.
Monday Collections
Despite a drop of nearly 50% compared to Friday, Oppenheimer recorded a solid Monday collection of 7 crores*. This number would have been impressive even for its first-day collections. However, considering the high benchmark set over the weekend with nearly 50 crores coming in, this drop was somewhat inevitable.
Normal Industry Trend
The decline on Monday aligns with the traditional trend for Hollywood films, which usually witness a 50% drop on the first working day of the week. Given the film’s all-around craze and positive word-of-mouth, there were hopes for a lesser drop, around 40%, which would have been fantastic. Nevertheless, the film’s performance remained steady, and thankfully, it didn’t dip to the range of 70%, a scenario seen with a few Marvel movies that experienced more significant declines than expected.
Impressive Total
Oppenheimer’s cumulative collections now stand at a healthy 56 crores*. The film is projected to comfortably cross the 70 crores mark after its first week. If it surpasses this milestone, it could reach the coveted 100 crores mark much quicker.
A Landmark for Christopher Nolan
The film’s success in India has led to a new milestone for Christopher Nolan, as Oppenheimer becomes his biggest grosser ever in the country. Additionally, Nolan has firmly established himself as a rare ‘director brand,’ further solidifying his reputation in the Indian film industry.
