Mukesh Khanna Lashes Out At Saif Ali Khan’s Humorous Portrayal Of ‘Raavan’ In Adipurush
In the latest development surrounding the highly anticipated film ‘Adipurush,’ Mukesh Khanna, known for his role as Shaktimaan, has voiced his criticism of Saif Ali Khan’s portrayal of ‘Raavan.’ The film, directed by Om Raut and starring Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, and Saif Ali Khan, has been making headlines for its visual effects (VFX) and dialogues penned by three-time National Award winner Manoj Muntashir. Here’s what Mukesh Khanna had to say about Saif’s ‘Raavan’ in the film.
Mukesh Khanna’s Disapproval of Saif Ali Khan’s ‘Raavan’
Mukesh Khanna expressed his dissatisfaction with Saif Ali Khan’s depiction of the character ‘Raavan’ in the film. In a YouTube video, he stated, “Raavan may be scary, but how can he look like Chandrakanta’s Shivdutt – a character associated with divinity? Raavan was a scholar. It’s shocking how someone could imagine and design Raavan in this manner. When the film was announced, Saif had mentioned that he would make the character humorous. At that time, I had said, ‘Who the hell are you to change the characters of our epic? Show it in your own religion. You will be beheaded.’ The fact is that not much has changed in Raavan’s appearance, and the makers even attempted to make him comical.”
Mukesh Khanna Questions Saif Ali Khan’s Casting and Character Design
Mukesh Khanna raised questions about director Om Raut’s choice of casting Saif Ali Khan for the role of ‘Raavan.’ He wondered whether Om Raut couldn’t find a better actor for such an iconic character. Mukesh Khanna remarked, “Did Om Raut only find Saif Ali Khan for the role of Raavan? Wasn’t there any other actor who could have done justice to this significant character? Raavan was a powerful personality, but they have made him in a makeshift manner. He looks more like a cheap smuggler than Raavan.”
Backlash and Security Measures
The film ‘Adipurush’ has faced backlash from fans and critics for its alleged offensive dialogues and disrespectful language towards Hindu gods and deities. As a result, the Mumbai Police provided security to dialogue writer Manoj Muntashir due to the massive backlash he received.
