Kajol Says Magic Of Older Films Can’t Be Replicated; Imagines DDLJ’s Simran’s Life After 20 Years

Kajol recently shared her thoughts on the replication of her older characters, expressing her reservations about seeing them recreated. She firmly believes that the magic of her iconic films cannot be replicated due to the unique circumstances in which they were made. Kajol emphasizes that each film has its own distinct charm and chemistry that cannot be easily reproduced. According to her, attempting to replicate these older films could potentially undermine their original appeal and connection to the era in which they were created.
Simran’s Evolution in Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge
Director Suparn Verma, in agreement with Kajol, highlights the importance of character evolution over time. He cites the example of Simran, Kajol’s character in the beloved film Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge. Verma asserts that as individuals, we naturally change and evolve, and consequently, Simran’s character would have also evolved if portrayed in a contemporary setting. He suggests that Simran would be a different person today compared to her on-screen portrayal in DDLJ.
Kajol’s Imagined Future for Simran
Building upon the idea of Simran’s evolution, Kajol speculates about the character’s life years after the events of Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge. She envisions Simran as a confident and empowered individual who has spent two to three decades in London with Raj, the film’s male lead. With both her father and mother no longer alive, Simran would have undergone significant personal growth and embraced a more independent and assertive personality. Kajol humorously adds that Simran might even be divorced, suggesting further changes in her life.
The Trial and Kajol’s Web Series Debut
Aside from discussing her past characters, Kajol also shared insights about her upcoming web series debut in The Trial: Pyaar Kaanoon Dhokha. This Indian adaptation of the American legal drama series The Good Wife is directed by Suparn Verma and features Kajol alongside Jisshu Sengupta. The Trial is set to premiere on Disney Plus Hotstar on July 14th, offering audiences a new and exciting project to look forward to.
