Housefull 5 Day 6 Box Office: Akshay Kumar Film Crosses ₹100 Cr Mark

Akshay Kumar and Abhishek Bachchan's comedy flick holds strong mid-week as audiences respond positively to its unique dual-ending twist.

Housefull 5 Box Office, the fifth installment in one of Bollywood’s most commercially reliable comedy franchises, has officially crossed the ₹100 crore milestone in India, delivering a mid-week performance that reflects both staying power and audience curiosity. On its sixth day in theatres, the film garnered an estimated ₹7.75 crore, bringing its India net total to approximately ₹107.9 crore, according to data reported by Pinkvilla.

Box Office Momentum Remains Steady

While the initial three-day surge—fueled by weekend footfalls and family audiences—was expected, Housefull 5 has surprised analysts with its midweek consistency. Following a robust ₹9.90 crore collection on Tuesday, thanks to the ‘Discount Tuesday’ scheme at major cinema chains, Wednesday’s ₹7.75 crore figure suggests that the film is holding up well against weekday fatigue.

As per trade tracking platform Koimoi, the film has maintained a day-wise drop within the acceptable range of 20–30%, a sign of audience retention. In terms of occupancy, Sacnilk estimates that the film maintained around 15% occupancy across Hindi-speaking regions on Wednesday.

A High-Powered Ensemble Drives the Crowd

Directed by Tarun Mansukhani and backed by Sajid Nadiadwala under his banner Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, Housefull 5 banks heavily on its multistar ensemble. The film stars Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, and Abhishek Bachchan in lead roles, supported by Jacqueline Fernandez, Sonam Bajwa, and Nargis Fakhri, with veterans like Nana Patekar, Sanjay Dutt, and Jackie Shroff bringing added heft to the cast.

Their collective comic timing and slapstick synergy are central to the film’s appeal, especially among mass audiences seeking a no-brainer entertainer.

Unique Dual Ending Strategy Sparks Curiosity

Perhaps the most headline-worthy creative choice is the film’s unconventional dual-ending format. Titled Housefull 5A and Housefull 5B, the two versions share the same first two hours but diverge dramatically in the last 20 minutes, each offering a different resolution to the film’s murder-mystery subplot.

As per Economic Times, this storytelling twist was designed to drive repeat viewership and keep audiences talking. While both endings initially received equal screen distribution, early feedback has tilted the scale. India Forums reports that Version A currently holds close to 70% of theatre screenings, with Version B trailing at 30%. This adjustment is being made in real-time based on audience response and box office performance.

Critical Response Remains Mixed

While the box office is painting a promising picture, critical reception has been lukewarm. Several reviewers have pointed out the film’s heavy reliance on outdated jokes and stereotypical humour. According to NDTV, the film suffers from “a lack of inventive writing” and leans too heavily on “loud, exaggerated performances.”

Yet, for its target audience—fans of high-decibel comedy and extravagant set-pieces—Housefull 5 delivers what’s expected. In a season sparse on full-blown commercial entertainers, this film is filling a gap.

Overseas Numbers Strengthen Global Footprint

Internationally, the film is also doing brisk business. According to box office tracking on Wikipedia, the global gross has reached ₹173.64 crore. Markets in the UAE, UK, and North America have responded well to the film’s slapstick tone, especially among Indian diaspora audiences. The film is expected to breach the ₹200 crore worldwide mark over the weekend if trends continue.

Franchise Resilience and Week 2 Expectations

Housefull 5 is now the second-fastest film in the franchise to hit the ₹100 crore mark, trailing only behind Housefull 4, which had the advantage of a Diwali release. The franchise’s long-standing recall and Akshay Kumar’s continued appeal have played crucial roles in drawing audiences to cinemas.

With no major releases lined up for the coming week, industry observers expect Housefull 5 to maintain its theatrical momentum into the second weekend. However, sustaining the pace beyond that will depend on how word-of-mouth evolves, especially among urban audiences.

Analysts from Pinkvilla suggest that a ₹200 crore lifetime run in India is possible, but only if the film can average around ₹25–30 crore over its second weekend.

A Gamble That Seems To Be Paying Off

At a time when theatrical footfalls are no longer guaranteed, Housefull 5 represents a rare case of a Bollywood comedy doing well outside of festival seasons or national holidays. While its artistic merit may be debatable, its commercial traction is undeniably strong.

The film’s unique two-ending strategy, coupled with its ensemble cast and light-hearted appeal, appears to have clicked with a segment of the audience hungry for escapist cinema. Whether that momentum can carry it into the blockbuster bracket remains to be seen, but for now, Housefull 5 is comfortably seated at the box office high table.
