Here’s Why Sooraj Barjatya Turned Down Salman Khan for “Uunchai.”
Uunchai, dubbed “yet another heartwarming family entertainer,” marks Sooraj Barjatya’s directorial return seven years after the release of his previous film, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo.
With Uunchai, Sooraj tried a new approach to filmmaking by focusing on the plot. Uunchai is a film about friendship, as opposed to his previous works, which were primarily about family.
Notably, this is his first feature film as a director in which the protagonist is not named Prem.

Maine Pyar Kiya, Hum Aapke Hain Koun, Hum Saath Saath Hain, Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon, Vivah, and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo are all titles with the word “Prem” in them. His most recent film is Prem Ratan Dhan Payo.
Indeed, Salman Khan has acted as director in four of his most recent six films.
Sooraj also revealed at the premiere of the trailer for Uunchai that Salman Khan had expressed interest in appearing in his next film, but that he had declined the offer due to compelling creative reasons.
When questioned about it, Sooraj stated, “In this film, we all form a band and celebrate the holiday. It was once thought that if you gave (a character) the name Prem, the movie would be a success. On the other hand, I don’t care anymore. Clinging to anything during the pandemic was pointless because everything was deteriorating.
“Salman asked me, ‘Sooraj, what are you making?’ then he asked me, ‘Why are you going to the hills?'” he continued. Then he told me, “I can make this film!” I replied in the negative. This is the case, given that it is widely known that he can successfully traverse difficult terrain. I needed people who could pretend to be unable to do what they said they couldn’t.”

Sooraj was asked who he knows in the industry as the event progressed, and he mentioned Salman Khan.
