According to Ladbible, the behind-the-scenes footage features director Chris Columbus cautioning the group of young actors, saying, “Do not eat any of the treats in the middle of the table.” He goes on to explain, “In the middle of the table, all the things piled up have been sprayed so they look great on screen but they’ll make you very sick if you eat them.” Columbus emphasizes, “Only eat the things that are on the plates in front of you. Alright?” An earlier social media post by the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London also revealed that the real food used in the scenes “didn’t hold up well” under the hot lights installed on the sets during filming.

Food Spoilage and Odor Issues

The post further reveals that the real food used for the scenes quickly spoiled, resulting in an unbearable stench. Consequently, for subsequent films, the prop-making department created resin molds of frozen foods to replicate their appearance. Warwick Davis, the actor who portrayed both Professor Flitwick and Griphook in the Harry Potter franchise, disclosed that the food was left uncovered throughout the night. In a 2014 interview, Davis shares his experience, stating, “A lot of great feasts happened in there [the Great Hall]. You may film them for three or four days, and the first day you step in there, they serve you a plate of food with lots of meats, vegetables, and roast potatoes, and you can eat the food.” However, he reveals that on subsequent days, the actors were instructed not to eat the food, as it had been left out overnight. By the fourth day, the aroma of the Great Hall became noticeable even before entering the set, indicating that the food remained unchanged and emitted a distinct smell.
