Bloody Daddy Movie Review: Shahid Kapoor’s Transformation To Desi John Wick
The story is set in Delhi’s Connaught Place, just after the second wave of Covid. A car accident leads to the theft of a bag containing millions of dollars worth of cocaine. Sumair (Shahid Kapoor), one of the thieves, is pursued by NCB (Narcotics Control Bureau). The cocaine belongs to Sikander (Ronit Roy), the main antagonist who kidnaps Sumair’s son to force the NCB to return the drugs. To save his son, Sumair agrees to follow Sikander’s instructions, which involve reaching Dubai via Gurugram. However, he must navigate through various obstacles and adversaries along the way.
Script Analysis
Co-written by Ali Abbas Zafar, Aditya Basu, and Siddharth-Garima, the script follows a familiar trope of a drug mafia kidnapping a policeman’s child to retrieve their drugs. While the storyline may not be unique, the film’s entertainment value lies in the challenges faced by Shahid Kapoor’s character, Bloody Daddy, as he confronts the main antagonist. The dialogue, combined with strong performances, elevates the otherwise ordinary plot.
Star Performances
Shahid Kapoor delivers a noteworthy performance as Bloody Daddy, effectively auditioning for the role of the Indian version of John Wick. His undeniable charm and intensity engage the audience, making them root for him as he embarks on a bloody journey. Ronit Roy shines as the wicked antagonist, showcasing his acting range from playing a good guy to a very convincing bad guy. Sanjay Kapoor provides comedic relief with his limited screen time, delivering hilarious lines amidst the chaos. Rajeev Khandelwal strikes a balance between uproarious and charming, while Diana Penty’s potential remains underutilized.
Direction and Music
Ali Abbas Zafar, known for his expertise in action films, capitalizes on his strengths in “Bloody Daddy.” The director collaborates once again with cinematographer Marcin Laskawiec, who excels in capturing the action sequences, particularly a standout scene in the hotel kitchen where Sumair employs crockery and cutlery to face his adversaries. The music, composed by Julius Packiam, cleverly combines elements from films like “Mission Impossible” and “Don 2” to create a unique and engaging soundtrack. Though the soundtrack deserves praise, there is limited exploration in this aspect.
Verdict
Shahid Kapoor’s transformation from a charming romantic hero to the fierce Bloody Daddy is a testament to his versatility as an actor. “Bloody Daddy” offers an entertaining watch, particularly for fans of action-packed films. With a rating of three stars, the film delivers on its promises, despite a predictable storyline.
