Anil Kapoor Reacts To Boycott Trends & Bollywood Films Facing Continuous Box Office Flops: “Yeh Silsila Toh Kaafi Saalo Se Chal Raha Hai”
Bollywood has been facing a turbulent period at the box office, with recent big releases such as Salman Khan’s “Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan,” Akshay Kumar’s “Selfiee,” and Aamir Khan’s “Laal Singh Chaddha” failing to impress audiences. Since the release of Shah Rukh Khan’s “Pathaan,” fans have eagerly awaited another Hindi film that can become a blockbuster. Anil Kapoor, in response to the series of flops, states that such occurrences are not unusual.
Shift in Audience Preferences
There has undeniably been a decline in viewership for Bollywood films. The success of movies is no longer solely dependent on the star power of actors but rather on the initial response and the quality of content. Regardless of whether it is Ranveer Singh, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, or Shah Rukh Khan, it is the substance of the film that speaks louder than the fame of the cast. In contrast, the South Indian film industry has experienced significant growth, with movies like “Kantara” and “Pushpa” shining in the mainstream world.
Understanding the Cyclic Nature of the Industry
Reflecting on the current scenario, Anil Kapoor shares his perspective with Indian Express, stating, “I have been working in this industry for many years; my father (Surinder Kapoor) was also a part of it, so we’ve been here for around 60 years. Actors, directors, and producers discussing the success or failure of films, this cycle has been going on for a long time. There are phases when a certain type of films doesn’t work for a couple of years, and people start saying that the industry is closing down. I have personally witnessed these phases five to six times in my career, but such closures will never happen. Just like individuals experience ups and downs in their lives, the business also goes through good and bad times.”
Embracing the Brighter Side
Anil Kapoor encourages everyone to maintain a positive outlook. He believes that the current phase of dullness can be taken as an opportunity for growth. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, people have taken the time to understand how to work harder, improve, and create better films. The upcoming films are expected to be of high quality, and the audience will appreciate them. Kapoor emphasizes that those who are sincere, honest, and skilled in their craft have nothing to fear; they should continue working diligently. As long as good films are produced, the audience will continue to watch and support them.
