Alaya F: Meeting Anurag Sir Changed My Career.

Those who have worked with Anurag Kashyap will tell you that the director is an inspiration to them. Alaya F. is no exception. Kashyap is a God-sent for the actor, who co-stars in the upcoming Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat. He believed in her when no one else in the industry did. “Almost Pyaar was the first film I signed, even before my debut vehicle, Jawaani Jaaneman [2020]. I was facing back-to-back rejections at the time. People would compliment [my reel], but I never heard back from them. This perplexed me about the industry and caused me to doubt myself. But when I showed Anurag sir my reel, he said, ‘I have a film that’s perfect for you.’ “There was no more debate; he offered me the film,” Alaya recalls.

That moment altered the newcomer’s perspective. She then went to auditions with renewed vigour. “The fact that someone like him believed in me gave me unrivalled confidence. It made me believe that I am deserving of a position in the industry. I attribute everything I got later to that moment with sir. My career changed in some ways as a result of that.”

Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat, co-starring Karan Mehta, premiered last month at the Marrakech International Film Festival. While the romantic drama has been in the works for four years, Alaya made a promising debut with Jawaani Jaaneman, which came out just weeks before the pandemic in 2020. She landed Freddy and the remake of the Kannada thriller U-Turn last year. She claims that working with Kashyap transformed her into a confident actor capable of juggling multiple projects.
