Alec Baldwin Could Receive A 5-Year Jail Sentence If Found Quilty Of The Involuntary Manslaughter Counts In The Rust Shooting Case
Alec Baldwin, a Hollywood actor, will face criminal charges in connection with the fatal on-set shooting of cameraman Halyna Hutchins. In her death, he will be charged with involuntary manslaughter. In October 2021, the incident occurred during a rehearsal for the western flick Rust.
Alec Baldwin fired the fatal shot at Halyna Hutchins while filming a scene inside the Bonanza Creek Ranch’s church structure outside Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA. Hannah Gutierrez Reed, the armourer who had loaded the weapon, will also be charged with involuntary manslaughter in connection with the killing. The charges entail a five-year mandatory minimum penalty. Meanwhile, David Halls, the production’s assistant director, has agreed to plead guilty to a misdemeanour charge of negligent use of a deadly weapon and will serve a six-month probation sentence.
The allegations were issued on Thursday by Mary Carmack-Altwies, the First Judicial District Attorney in Santa Fe. “After a comprehensive assessment of the facts and the laws of the state of New Mexico, I have determined that there is sufficient evidence to press criminal charges against Alec Baldwin and other members of the ‘Rust’ film team. No one is above the law under my watch, and everyone deserves justice.” As she disclosed the charges in her statement and on social media, Mary stated.
According to Variety, Andrea Reeb, the special prosecutor assigned by Mary Carmack-Altwies to handle the case, stated, “If any one of these three people — Alec Baldwin, Hannah Gutierrez Reed, or David Halls — had done their job, Halyna Hutchins would be alive today.” Meanwhile, Alec Baldwin previously stated that the staff informed him that the rifle was not loaded. In a statement, his attorney, Luke Nikas, said his client “had no reason to suspect there was a live bullet in the gun” on the day the cameraman was killed, and he called the allegations brought against the actor a “grave miscarriage of justice.”
